Last week, I went on my first field trip of the year to MoMA. I normally don’t go on many field trips due to the minimum funding that my school receives for extracurricular activities. The Pixar exhibit at MoMA was absolutely fantastic, many of the pieces of production artwork showcased in the exhibit could be seen on the DVDs of their respective movie but there’s something to be said about seeing the things in person. Being able to see the maquettes and take your own look at them from different angles was worth the price of admission alone. Too bad the exhibit is going away in a week or so, I’d recommend seeing the exhibit to absolutely anyone who’s interested in animation or has seen a couple of Pixar movies.
My only gripe about the exhibit was that it seemed to be a bit of an advertisement for their next movie Cars. Sure there was plenty of other artwork from their other movies (the pieces from The Incredibles stood out really well) but a lot of attention was given towards Cars. While I guess it’s a great marketing strategy to raise interest in Pixar, and get some of the audience from the high-brow art community to go see their latest movie. While in the end you still get a great gallery of Pixar art work, I would have liked it better if it were shown a month or so after the release of their latest movie, just to have a little more heart behind it.
In other news, it seems that the USA Network has struck a deal with eBaum’s World Inc. to have a late-night television show after Wrestling. For me anyway, it’s sad to see Eric Bauman continue his reign of stealing content from artists and making money off of their own work. I wonder if he’ll keep that watermark on all his stolen content that he airs on TV. This television show will only make his site more popular and make the people he steals from even more miserable. Hopefully, the eBaumsWorldSucks.com protest will become more popular. It’s the second site that comes up when you Google the word “eBaum”.
On a happier note, the Coca-Cola company will sort of bring back Surge next month. The formula for Surge has been used in their new over-caffeinated “energy drink” Vault. With the exception of having 30% more caffeine, the formula was left mostly the same. Apparently, this soda was made to compete with Mountain Dew MDX and to please the three people who still remember Surge. A representative from the Coca-Cola Company stated the new drink is a response for the successful SaveSurge.org campaign. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled.
I’ll also get back to drawing stuff for deviantART pretty soon. I just finished the big “write a 10 page research paper on a little known African-American person” assignment that has been haunting my life for the past month and with the beginning of third quarter coming up in a couple of days, the teachers are likely to lower their workload.
